NASA Seeks Volunteers for Moon and Mars Simulation
NASA recruits volunteers for a yearlong Moon and Mars simulation.

NASA is offering a chance for four participants to join its Moon and Mars Exploration Analog, a yearlong simulation program. Volunteers will live in spacelike conditions, carrying out tasks like growing crops and replicating spacewalks. The program aims to reduce risks astronauts may face when flying to space and landing on Mars. ## What happened NASA's Moon and Mars Exploration Analog is a yearlong simulation program designed to replicate traveling and living on the Moon and Mars. The program will be based at the Johnson Space Center in Houston and will begin no earlier than August 2027. The 12-month program will be split into three segments, involving two different habitats. The first segment will take place inside a mock spacecraft, where the volunteers will live as though they were traveling from Earth to the Moon or Mars. The second segment will shift the volunteers from traveling to living on the surface of another planet. The third phase will be a return to Earth in the same spacecraft used in the outward journey. ## Why it matters The research program will help NASA reduce any risks astronauts may face when flying to space and landing on Mars. The project will also study how crew members adjust to living on Mars time, which could impact sleep and other health and performance issues.
